  • Sikker recommends the following veteran services: Mental health and wellbeing support Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling – You and your immediate family can access Open Arms services for mental health and wellbeing support if you have served at least one day of continuous fulltime service in the ADF. Reservists who have rendered border protection or disaster relief service, or been involved in or witnessed a serious training accident, and their immediate families can also access Open Arms services.

  • Phoenix Australia – A great and extensive resource for veterans including specific training programs (e.g. Anger and Trauma workshops, psychological first aid courses, cognitive processing therapy), research on treatments and trials that veterans can partake in.
  • Mates4Mates – A great organisation that provides social connection activities, physical rehabilitation and wellbeing, psychological services and skills for recovery programs.
  • Veteran Benefits Australia – This service provides exercise programs, fully funded nutrition plans, mental health programs and veteran home cleaning services. They also have an ‘entitlement finder’.
  • Head to Health – A government organisation that provides mental health information, services and support. Services through Head to Health centres and Pop Up clinics are free and you do not need a prior appointment or GP referral to access them.
  • Financial support
  • Bravery Trust – A registered charity that provides financial education and financial aid to exserving and current serving ADF members.
  • Australian Army Relief Trust Fund – Operated by Defence, this Fund provides benefits and support loans for financial hardship.
  • Veterans360 Australia – This organisation does not provide cash payments but they have access to veteran specific trust funds for financial hardship. They also provide crisis and transitional accommodation.
  • Australian Veterans’ Children Assistance Trust– This national charity provides tertiary education scholarships and bursaries as well as financial support to children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of ex-serving members.
  • Commando Welfare Trust – A trust providing financial relief for qualifying SOCOMD personnel.

  • Wandering Warriors – Support for Australia's Elite Veterans and their Families. Wandering Warriors is a registered charity dedicated to assisting veterans of Australia’s Special Operations Command, inclusive of Army, Navy, and Air Force veterans.
  • Legacy – A charity supporting the partners and children of veterans who have died during or after their service.
  • General welfare and support services
  • Engage – A search engine operated by Defence that identifies local and national veteran support services.
  • Solider On – A registered charity that offers free programs and services covering health, employment, learning, participation, and social connection to provide the tools and support for veterans and their families to lead a meaningful civilian life.
  • RSL Sub-Branches (not RSL clubs) – State-based hubs for veterans to connect socially. They may provide welfare services and facilitate veteran commemorations.
  • RSL LifeCare Veteran Services – This organisation provides support and wellbeing programs that are veteran-centric and recovery focused, including veteran and family hubs, employment and housing assistance and the ‘Spur Equine Program’.

  • Veteran Employment Program – The Veteran Employment Program improves support for veterans moving to civilian employment and helps Australian organisations create work environments to attract and bring out the best in their veteran employees.
